Salves, ointments and creams have been used through the years.   These preparations combine herbs (or combination of herbs) with an oily base to be used externally. Creams are light and slightly oily, and are designed to blend with the skin's secretions to allow the active ingredients to penetrate the skin. The heavier and oilier salves and ointments require a slightly longer time to penetrate. If you have an old family recipe and you would like to see it made into a product for your use , please email it to us. We have many books on these products but we are always looking for interesting ideas.   To test for allergic reaction, a patch test is advised.
